IT'S COSTING ME MONEY. Whenever I start Outlook, an error message pops up, saying: "The add-in "C:\Program Files\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktopO..." could not be installed or loaded. Before, everything worked fine, now it's havoc: One of the worst problems is the search. Searches are then slow but at least they return results.
Richard March 6th, 2010 at 20:01 Yep…it does indeed work. Trying these different things may get the critical error to go away, and get your desktop search and Cortana up and running again. Windows search may never be perfect, but there This will end the Cortana process, but the operating system will reload it, which should have your search working again. I have numerous subfolders and have been faithfully transferring information there.

Cortana is supposed to be like a virtual assistant, but it may assist more in giving you headaches than actual results. Keep Outlook open when Desktop is initially indexing your files.

I searched MS help for an hour and they don't even describe add-ins well.
Click Search. Repairing pst, rebuilding indexs and fixing program won't fix the problem. every other REAL answer did not mention registry delete, only the extend.dat fix(which I just renamed extend.old) finally this stupid message is gone!!! In previous versions of Outlook, you could specify which mailbox or .pst/.ost files within Outlook to index, but in Outlook 2016 you either index Outlook completely or you do not index

Clear the check boxes under Index messages in these data files. Rebuilding indexes fixed it once and it worked for a day or two now it is hosed again. Windows may fix it on its own. When it stops working, it can seriously affect your ability to quickly navigate through your emails.
