Thank you Clem! Place an index finger on the encoder strip on either side of the cartridge carrier. 7. You need to turn off the printer and using a dry kleenex wipe off that rod from end to end.

I have tried just about every which way but it still crashes on power on. useful source I got a tissue and wiped the bar down real good. does anyone know of any instructions on how to put the encoder strip back in place (it is completely out now). I tried more to fix the magenta problem.

On the back of the cartridge carrier, there is a small slot that the encoder strip fits into. I too found your site by googling Lexmark Hardware error 0502 after getting it twice…..I'm not one of those "go to the manufacturer first for good answers kind of people!" : The cartridge carrier was indeed unconnected from the little strip thingy behid the cartridges. I even uninstalled the printer and then reinstalled it. I almost threw it in the trash yesterday.
